Signs and Symptoms of Pregnancy

Ah! The wonderful Internet is a great place for us to do research, but it certainly isn't a replacement for a quick trip to your doctor!

There are many symptoms of pregnancy - you could have all of the symptoms, some of the symptoms, or no symptoms at all. Like people, pregnancies vary greatly and no two pregnancies are the same.

No symptoms in your pregnancy?

Early Signs of Pregnancy

  • A missed period, irregular bleeding, or spotting
  • Lower back pain or aching
  • Tender and/or swollen breasts
  • Darkened areola (pigmented skin surrounding the nipple)
  • Itchy or very sore nipples
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • A heightened sense of smell
  • Headaches
  • Lower abdominal cramping or tenderness
  • Frequent urination
  • Increased salivation
  • Feeling of tiredness or exhaustion
  • Constipation
  • Food cravings or aversions
  • Nose bleeds

Unfortunately, a lot of the symptoms listed can be caused by various other things, such as a change in diet, oncoming menstruation, certain sicknesses, and so forth.

No Symptoms?

If you've recently fond out that you are pregnant, but you are experiencing no signs or symptoms of pregnancy... Count your lucky stars! You are one of few women that are lucky enough to not have any of the symptoms accompanying pregnancy. This does not mean that there is anything wrong with your pregnancy! Take a deep breath and relax! Your pregnancy is normal, even without symptoms.

Not Sure if You're Pregnant?

Make yourself an appointment with your doctor or make a visit to your local walk-in clinic and request a pregnancy test. You can also purchase at home pregnancy tests - they use the same technology as the urine-based pregnancy tests that the doctors use.

Until you know for sure, treat yourself as you are pregnant: eat well, take prenatal vitamins and folic acid, get lots of rest, drink lots of water, and stay healthy!
