13 Weeks Into Your Pregnancy

All About You | All About Your Baby | What Now?

Finally! You made it to the second trimester. Congratulations! Your chance of miscarriage has gone down incredibly, and you are in the "honeymoon" phase of the pregnancy.

All About You and Your Body!

Your libido is likely to increase during this trimester... For some women, that starts to happen during the 13th week. Contrary to not-so-popular belief, sex won't hurt the baby in a healthy pregnancy. You won't poke the baby's eye, dad. Stop worrying about it! The movements of sex can actually sooth the baby to sleep.

You might be able to feel your uterus contract during and after an orgasm now. Don't worry - it's completely normal. Baby won't like it down the road when its space is compromised through the contraction, but you'll at least be able to feel him or her kick!

You may notice an increase in energy and some "lucky" women may experience breast leakage. Leaking colustrum (pre-milk) is perfectly healthy at any stage of pregnancy. Leaking is not a sign of being able or not being able to breastfeed. Hope over to the grocery store and get yourself some nursing pads to put inside of your bra. Even if you're not planning on breastfeeding, these pads will come in handy after the birth.

All About Your Baby

Your baby is the size of an itty bitty peach! Measuring anywhere from 2.6 and 3.1 inches from crown to rump and weighing as much as seven-tenths of an oz! Quite a lot larger than just a few weeks ago.

His or her little wrists and ankles are formed and their digits have become separated - no more duck baby!

The intestines, which started out in the umbelical chord, are moving into their proper place while its villi are forming. The external genetalia are becoming visible and your baby's pancreas has begun secreting insulin.

What Should You Do Now?

You're out of the first trimester. At this point, the first order of business for a lot of expecting parents is to share the news of a new little one on the way!

There are lots of different ways to share the great news: funny t-shirts, hidden messages in or on food, giving ultrasound pictures as a present, baloons... The list goes on.
